When survivors of intimate partner violence leave their abuser,
the risk increases. How can we help women feel safe to take action?
BWSS created Cyclesync, an app that discreetly gathers evidence by posing as a menstrual tracker.
How does it work?
In cases of intimate partner violence, getting restraining orders, legal support, and temporary housing is often contingent on presenting evidence. Cyclesync helps you log evidence discreetly in the calendar using voice notes, pictures and videos. We want the survivor to feel full autonomy to take action when they feel ready and safe to.
1
Facial Recognition: Need facial recognition to authenticate and open up the app.
2
Personalized Signal: every user is prompted immediately to create a personalized voice-activated signal (using Siri/Google Assistant & Shortcuts), so if ever found out, they can delete the app and send the report to BWSS & and first responders.
3
Keywords AI: adding coded words for AI to pick up and connect you with BWSS.
How do women find out about this?
It's important that the app is advertised in specific areas for anonymity. That's why the app will only be advertised in women-centric areas. Brochures and posters for the app will be distributed in healthcare facilities and shelters. Partnering with the feminine hygiene brand Ubykotex, we were able to add our QR code into their packaging, reaching a larger audience.
